Like most independent schools, San Francisco Day School is governed by a Board of Trustees charged with safeguarding the financial health and overall well-being of the School. Trustees are elected for three-year terms and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. Board meetings are held monthly during the school year.  At SF Day, the Board of Trustees has three main areas of responsibility:

The Board approves the school's annual budget, which includes setting tuition and ensuring the program operates within fiscal limits. The Board is also responsible for overseeing SF Day endowment funds, physical assets, and fundraising. A breakdown of operating revenue and expenses can be found in the Annual Report.

Policy Making

The Board conducts formal strategic planning to determine the school's objectives and establishes policies for the operation of SF Day.

Head of School Support

The Board selects, evaluates, and supports the Head of School.  The Board is not involved in the day-to-day affairs of the school; instead, our trustees govern with the financial expertise necessary to ensure the school's long-term financial health.  In turn, the Head of School is responsible for implementing Board policy and overall operational management of the school.  Together, the Board and Head of School partner to steward San Francisco Day School, upholding its mission and vision.

The Board conducts most of its business through standing committees. Present committees include:

  • Executive Committee
  • Buildings & Grounds Committee
  • Diversity & Inclusion Committee
  • Development Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Head Support and Evaluation Committee
  • Trustee Committee
  • Breakthrough San Francisco Committee
